Put Up or Shut Up

I don’t complain a lot, BUT I’m so very tired of hearing people talk about what they believe and then seeing them do the exact opposite. You love people? Show me. You think you’re a “good Christian”? Show me. You want to be sober? Show me. You think you can do it better than the other guy? SHOW ME! Lord have mercy! If you have time to complain, then you have time to volunteer. If you don’t like the way things are, for the love of Pete, quit talking about it and do something. I have found that the people doing the talking aren’t likely to be the people doing the…well, doing. Makes sense, though. If you’re out there doing, you don’t have time for all the talking. I read a scripture the other night in Psalm (5:9) that I’ve been ruminating on. One part of the verse says “their throat is an open grave”.

Wow. That verse gives me a visceral reaction. Let’s sit with the implications of that for a couple of seconds. Uncomfortable, isn’t it?

Is our complaining and criticizing leading to death? If not literal, I’d put money on it leading to a spiritual and mental death; absolutely leads to the death of joy. Just consider what you are putting out into the atmosphere. If it’s not useful for building up, intended to help someone, or said from a place of love, think twice about saying it and then think two more times just to be sure. We have enough graves, let’s start speaking life.
